United Airlines Inc. late Tuesday released its third-quarter financial results, which showed steep declines in jet fuel prices and associated costs during the quarter. United announced it spent some $3.342 billion on fuel in the third quarter, representing a drop of 11% from the $3.755 billion it spent during the same period in 2022. Over the first nine months ended Sept. 30, the company said its fuel expenses fell by 4.7% versus the same time frame last year. United’s average fuel cost in the quarter was reported at $2.95/gal, which compares to $3.81/gal over the same time frame last year, a tumble of 22.6%. United Airlines (NASDAQ:UAL) said it now expects full-year adjusted earnings per share — which strips out one-time items — of $11 to $12, up from a prior guidance in the range of $10 to $12.

United Airlines (NASDAQ:UAL)  reported Q2 adjusted earnings per share of $5.03, up from $1.43 a year earlier. Analysts polled by Capital IQ expected a normalized EPS of $4.06. Revenue for the quarter ended June 30 was $14.2 billion, up from $12.1 billion a year earlier. Analysts surveyed by Capital IQ expected $13.9. For 2023, United raised its full-year adjusted EPS estimates to $11 to $12 versus previous guidance of $10 to $12. Analysts expect $9.78.

The company provided EPS guidance of $3.50-$4.00 for the period, compared to the consensus EPS estimate of $3.65. The company issued revenue guidance of $13.81 billion-$14.05 billion, compared to the consensus revenue estimate of $13.97 billion.
